are some of the styles of bellydance:
Egyptian Cabaret - Controlled,
subtle movements. Refined and elegant. A good
knowledge of Arabic music rhythms is needed, so
that your body is like an instrument playing the
music. Usually danced in a beaded bra and belt
with skirt.

Turkish
- Bouncy, more free style movements focusing
on hips and pelvis. Costumes are usually more
revealing than Egyptian style and danced in
high heels.

Lebanese
- An elegant cross between Egyptian
Cabaret and Turkish styles. Lebanese bellydance
is also danced in a revealing bra and belt
set, usually with high heels.

Folkloric
- Many countries have their version of folk
dance. Characterised by earthy movements and
mostly danced with accessories like a cane,
basket or candelabra. Costumes are usually
quite modest and can range from simple white
tunic dresses to beaded evening gown type
dresses.

Tribal Style (ATS) - A unique style
created in the USA. This dance style combines
elements from different regions and usually
performed in a group. This style emphasizes
female bonding and sisterhood. Costumes usually
consist of a gypsy type skirt worn with a
cropped top, turban and ethnic silver jewelry. |
